About us
In the fall of 1991, a steering committee formed the idea of creating a statewide leadership program that would convene professionals from both the public and private sectors and help build a better Maryland.
With the aid of considerable community and corporate support and donated talent and resources, Leadership Maryland was incorporated in September 1992, as an affiliate of the Maryland Chamber of Commerce. In February of 1993, Leadership Maryland obtained its 501(c)3 designation and later that year, the inaugural class was born. In 1997, Leadership Maryland became independent from the Maryland Chamber of Commerce.
Since that first class, Leadership Maryland has evolved into one of the most successful as well as significant statewide leadership programs in the United States. In 2024, Leadership Maryland expanded its program offerings, introducing both the Emerging Leader Program for our state’s rising stars and the Encore Program for alumni. Leadership Maryland continues to offer its flagship program, now titled theExecutive Program.

The staff that facilitated all of the programs were wonderful and my classmates are amazing! The training provided learning opportunities that expanded my knowledge of the state, certainly, but also pushed me to reflect on myself, my role in my company, and my role in the greater community.
